The Pyramid Model for Effective Parenting is designed to offer parents a comprehensive look at how forming healthy, positive relationships with children can foster an environment in which children can learn, grow and thrive.
This course is 12 hours in length with each session 1hour 30min. It can be presented in weekly sessions and is also adaptable to fit into a 2 day conference or other format according to your organizations' needs.
In the training sessions, parents are equipped to:
Session 1: Foundation
An overview of the training model describes the 5 key Strategies to Effective Parenting to help raise children who thrive.
Session 2: I am Key - Parent Mental Health Self-Assessment
A journey of self-discovery, looking at the different influences that shapes one’s current state of parenting. Concepts introduced challenge parents to evaluate their own competencies to generate strategies for areas that need improvement.
Session 3: Connection is Key - Parent-Child Relationships
A look at the essential components that promote healthy family development and community connections by exploring attachment theory and how sensitive, responsive caregiving helps to develop a secure base of trust, allowing children to explore the larger world and relationships.
Session 4: Connection is Key - Co-Regulation as a means to Self-Regulation
Parental effectiveness is greatly influenced by the nature and quality of the parent-child connection. The strength of the connection determines children’s ability to self-regulate as they take emotional cues from their parents.
Session 5: Environment is Key
Parent-child relationships exist within the context of other human and environmental influences. How the environment and the quality thereof influence development, behavior, and parenting styles will be explored, including strategies for creating supportive environments.
Session 6: Skills are Key - Problem Solving & Social-Emotional Literacy
Problem solving abilities are fundamental skills needed to survive and thrive in today’s competitive environment. This session focuses on identifying strategies for the development of problem solving skills in both adults and children.
Session 7: Social-Emotional Literacy
Exploring the importance of social emotional skills, emotional literacy, and identifying activities that create opportunities for children to learn skills like how to make friends, self-regulation, and how to handle disappointment.
Session 8: Intervention is Key
Learning when to ask for outside help and identifying resources within the community that will provide additional support and help in the form of interventions and tools for parents in crisis.
